Amazon.com Review "Not too long ago, Zoombinis enjoyed the good life. Though they all looked slightly different--different eyes, noses, hair, feet--such differences meant nothing to the Zoombinis. And so they lived happily on Zoombini Isle, making small, useful products, which were prized the world over." So begins an unsuspectingly addictive CD-ROM, featuring uncommonly fun reasoning games that require serious problem solving and math-thinking work. Yet the perils that face this cheerful society are not as fearsome as the amount of time you'll potentially spend on this pursuit. Beware the chubby, chattering Zoombinis if you don't want to get hooked to your computer for at least 90 minutes a session! Adored by educators and parents alike, Zoombinis Logical Journey challenges children to employ such basic fundamentals of mathematical thinking as organizing information, reasoning of evidence, finding and making patterns, and systematic testing of hypotheses. The journey follows four puzzle-filled trails, each exploring related mathematical ideas. The fundamental data and variables for all this work are the variations in the Zoombinis' features. Their "feet," for example, can be shoes, skates, whirligigs, or coiled springs (the sound effects for these items are particularly great), while their "eyes" may be heavily lidded, enhanced by eyeglasses, blocked by dark shades, or limited to just a single eyeball. Sorting and arranging these variables in order to solve puzzles requires concentrated effort from the players, and the game rewards them well with inventive scenarios that evolve in fabulously curious ways as skills are gained. This may not sound like much, but when Arno the Pizza-Eating Tree Troll, who has been yammering for the perfectly topped pizza his entire lifetime, suddenly demands a perfectly topped ice cream sundae, too, it is a staggering, giddy surprise. The product is full of so many little joys, it's hard to demand improvements. Still, it'd be a great thing if version 2 would feature something other than the monotonous, ping-ping-ping soundtrack that's featured here. But that's minor. In the end, the creators' promise that this CD-ROM will "encourage kids to develop a lifetime habit of associating fun with learning" is dead-on. (Ages 9 and older) --Jean Lenihan

Best analytical stimulation for a child August 27, 2010 I. Patcherezov (Washington, DC) We play many adult and child board and online games and I am not aware of a game that is more mentally stimulating while being pretty fun for a child. My daughter has been playing this since she turned 4 and continues to ask for this series two years later. I am not sure that one needs to have all of the games from the series, since many of the puzzles are based on the same type of logic, but I feel that every child should own a copy of one. Since the puzzles offer four levels of difficulty, most of them would be challenging for the average adult. The great replay value will help boost a child's analytical skills to a point that many of their school tasks become trivial.
favorite childhood game August 23, 2010 go blue I adored playing this game in elementary school and still enjoy playing it in college :)
This game worked fine in my Windows 7 64-bit machine: stuck the cd in and the installation worked perfectly. The only thing I had a problem with was registering the game; just skip that and the game works fine. The game is just as I remembered, fun and can still be challenging at the hardest levels. The only complaint I have is probably due to the limitations of my own laptop (bad video card): the game is prone to freezing for a couple seconds during game-play.
Excellent August 13, 2010 sayletta (waukegan, illinois United States) This is a journey that makes you think. It's really addictive for all ages. Try it you'll love it.
Pretty good. August 13, 2010 Aloha (Hawaii) It took a while to figure out what you were supposed to do, and I don't know how much math is actually reinforced, but when we did figure it out my son thought it was fun.
did not work for us May 12, 2010 S. Berner (Michigan, USA) I ordered this for my daughter and she was soooo looking forward to it, but it would not work on our computer. We have a newish computer and I ran all the diagnostics and changed some settings like they asked, but it still would not load the game for play after instillation.
